The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, in coordination with the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and the Attorney General's Office, arrested at the Miami airport a Dominican legislator with a U.S. arrest warrant for international drug trafficking matters.
The deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Miguel Gutiérrez DÃaz, was arrested when he arrived in a commercial flight from the Dominican Republic to the Miami terminal and was immediately detained by the U.S. authorities to answer for the accusations against him.
The arrest of the Santiago legislator Gutiérrez DÃaz is part of the strengthening of cooperation against transnational crime between the anti-drug agencies of the United States and the Dominican Republic. "The case is in the investigation phase and we hope to continue cooperating with U.S. authorities throughout the process," the DNCD statement said.
